Haydn was a superstar in his time – celebrated across Europe as one of the foremost musical figures. He taught Mozart and discovered Beethoven. With over 100 symphonies to his name and widely regarded as the “Father of the String Quartet,” Joseph Haydn is undoubtedly one of the greatest figures in European musical history. Come and experience why, as we give Haydn the attention he truly deserves!

International Classical Music Awards: Our first four releases of Haydn’s late symphonies have all been nominated for International Classical Music Awards for Best Symphonic Release.

Haydn festival 2025

Adam Fischer and the Danish Chamber Orchestra will, for the time being, conclude their Haydn journey in 2025 with this fourth and final festival. In addition to four late Haydn symphonies – No. 88, 89, 91, and 92—you will also experience one of Haydn’s splendid piano concertos and be profoundly moved by the oratorio The Creation, widely regarded as Haydn’s greatest work. The Creation will be performed on Saturday in collaboration with the Malmö Opera Choir, who have become an ideal musical partner for Fischer and the orchestra. We are delighted to introduce two emerging Danish soloists performing Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D Major and Piano Concerto No. 11: Jonathan Swensen and Valdemar Wenzel Most (“P2 Talent of the Year 2025”).

The main program will include pre-concert talks with Mathias Hammer in conversation with Ditlev Tamm and Mikael Rothstein, offering insight into the music and Haydn’s era ahead of The Creation and the closing concert.

I look forward to giving people a new perspective on Haydn
- and perhaps even an eye-opener.

Chefdirigent Adam Fischer

Joseph Haydn

Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) served for many years as court conductor and composer-in-residence at the court of Prince Esterházy in Eisenstadt, Austria. Here, the prince gave him the opportunity to establish a vibrant musical culture. Upon the death of the elder prince in 1790, the estate was inherited by his son, who did not share his father’s deep appreciation for music. Læs mere
